'The cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and UNESCO started since the 1970s. The national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev greatly contributed to the establishing and developing of these relations. Azerbaijan became a member of UNESCO in 1992 and the cooperation intensified upon the creation of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO in 1994. Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan has been implementing close cooperation with UNESCO. The designation of the First Lady of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador fostered the bilateral relationship between Azerbaijan and UNESCO. Just to mention that numerous elements of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan were inscribed on the relevant UNESCO lists. Azerbaijan has signed and ratified a number of important conventions in the fields of culture, education, and science. The aim of this essay contest is to challenge the ADA University students to elaborate on achievements and the future prospects cooperation between UNESCO and the Republic of Azerbaijan.'
