Dr. Anar Valiyev, Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs delivered a speech at the international conference on China’s Rise in Eurasia hosted by the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) headquartered in Washington D.C.
“...China did not attach any political and economic interest towards the South Caucasus during the initial years of the Soviet Union's collapse. However, starting from 2014-2015, we have seen Chinese raise and engagement in the South Caucasus.” said Dr. Valiyev during his presentation on Azerbaijan Through The Prism of OBOR: Chinese Interests in the Region.
“The US disengagement in the region and internal problems of the EU such as Brexit and illegal migration flow to Europe are considered some of the major driving forces that brought China to the South Caucasus,” added Dr. Valiyev.
