New paper authored by SPIA Assistant Professor was featured in Women’s Studies International Forum

We are pleased to announce that the publication titled “Agency in multiple temporalities: Being Syrian women, becoming widows and refugees, remaining pious” authored by Umut Ozkaleli, Assistant Professor of the School of Public and International Affairs (ADA University) was published in Women’s Studies International Forum.

The paper investigates the agency of twelve pious Syrian refugee widows who were living in Gaziantep, Turkey.

"I was in the city of Gaziantep in Southeast Turkey, where tens of thousands of Syrians were living. I had already interviewed dozens of people who were singularly labeled as ‘refugees.’ In fact, when they lived in Syria, the Syrian people possessed broad diversity in terms of background, religious views, class position, formal education, ethnicity, and locality."
