The CBS brought together foreign diplomats from 18 countries, as well as representatives from academic institutions and think tanks focused on the Caspian region.
At the closing ceremony, Rector of ADA University, Ambassador Hafiz Pashayev, highlighted that the Caspian Basin Studies (CBS) program not only promotes ADA University but also serves as a platform to showcase Azerbaijan to the world.
Hikmat Hajiyev, Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, delivered a speech on Azerbaijan’s foreign policy and its geopolitical role following the liberation of Karabakh. He emphasized Azerbaijan’s strategic position at the crossroads of the North-South and East-West transportation corridors and its economic connections in the region. Mr. Hajiyev also described Azerbaijan’s hosting of COP29 as a testament to the country’s diplomatic and political leadership, as well as its commitment to transitioning toward green energy. Following his speech, he addressed questions from CBS participants.
The closing ceremony concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants and a group photo to mark the occasion.
As part of the program, on April 18, participants visited Aghdam, one of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, to observe the ongoing restoration and reconstruction efforts. They toured key sites, including the Aghdam Theatre, the Conference Center, Juma Mosque, and the Alley of Martyrs. During the visit, participants were briefed on the extensive destruction that occurred during nearly 30 years of occupation and learned about the progress being made to rebuild the city.
