7th “womENcourage” international virtual meeting was hosted by ADA University

The 7th international “womENcourage” meeting hosted by ADA University was concluded with the organizational support of ACM-W Europe, a digital partnership of Azercell Telecom LLC, and support of PASHA Bank, Amazon, IBM, and Azerbaijan Convention Bureau.
 
The virtual meeting organized under the slogan of “The equation has two sides” has gathered 200 participants from nearly 40 countries of five continents to discuss their achievements in computing and topical issues of this field.
 
Dr. Vafa Kazdal, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (ADA University), welcomed the participants on the first day of the meeting from ADA University — the local center of innovation.
"Even the pandemic was not able to stop the realization of "womENcourage 2020". Having organized this important event is a solemn celebration of technology," noted Dr. Kazdal.

Professor Gabriel Kotsis, ACM's newly-elected President, highlighted that the participants will get the latest updates on computing and will create new professional network.

Ms. Ruth Lennon, the chair of the ACM-W Europe, said: "We are happy that this year's conference was held in Baku after Manchester, Uppsala, Linz, Barcelona, Belgrade and Rome."
Mr. Lennon also expressed her gratitude to organizers for implementation of event and thanked to sponsors providing scholarships to 12 students.
 
On the third day of Conference, the representatives of local and international technological companies shared information on their companies. Participants had an opportunity to make an online interaction with them via virtual booths and to take part in on-site hiring sessions.
 
During the hackathon (hacker marathon) held in the framework of the meeting, teams came up with the functional prototype that aimed to solve a real-life problem in the field of education.
 
The four-day meeting featured presentations and panel discussions on "The Big Promises of Big Data Analytics" and "Artificial Intelligence: From Algorithms to Ethics" with the participation of high-level professionals of scientific community. Participants joined more than 30 poster presentations delivered by bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. students. 

The cultural program of womENcourage 2020, included daily virtual tours to Baku and demonstration of documentaries about our country.
